'Just as fun' is a bit of a loaded statement.

DDO was a massive pile of s*** trying to take a license that was never meant to be an MMO (Dungeons and Dragons) and then completely butchering it with an artificially extended leveling curve and an over-reliance on cash shop.

My prognosis when playing it: GW is way closer to dungeons and dragons than DDO ever was.

Have you tried Atlantica personally? Is it any good? Appealing to average GW player? Might give it a try.

AO is more directly appealing to Final Fantasy players than GW players.

Not Runes of Magic. I also recently tried Fantasy Earth Zero (not that good imo) and Aika (virus software didn't like it so I didn't play it).

WotC has been continuously degrading D&D since they bought it.

No...not "just as good" as GW and pretty disappointing, actually (sad to say).

I've tried a few F2P rpg games, free mmorpg usually means, it's free but you will be at a significant disadvantage compared to the players who use the cash shop.

You could consider EvE Online to be "free" once you get an account settled in. You can buy game time with actual in game currency. You can also buy them out of game and sell them for game currency. There's a lot of freedom in EvE that people shrug off, which is why it's not exactly the epitome of popularity. Thankfully it gets two free expansions a year and has an RTS/FPS spinoff coming to Xbox that's linked DIRECTLY with EvE on the PC.

Perfect World is decent for a free MMO, it's basically an Asian WoW with a fairly good character creator. Seems like a lot of the cash shop items are/were cosmetic. It wasn't really for me, but I'd definetly put it near GW since the community seems great and there's a lot more depth than your typical free MMO

S4 league used to be great even though I guess it's not actually an MMO. It's sinking and stinking nowadays though, since the cash shop is bloated and grants paying customers a hugely unreasonable advantage. Skill is the prime factor, but skill can only account for so much when two bullets can end you, but you need 30 to end your target (I'm exaggerating). It's still great just because the gameplay is full of win. It's at least worth a try, just be prepared to be miserable later due to lack of thought when implementing cash items.

The other free MMOs I've tried honestly aren't even worth the mention, since they're just copy and paste clones of previous games like Lineage 2.

Well...

1. Runes of Magic

2. Allods

Basically the two best f2p mmorpg's.

I recently reloaded Last Chaos.

Negatives:
-It doesn't have alot of character customization
-Has repetitive quests/level-grind
-No jumping or Z-axis
-Mostly solo-play oriented
-Gear/weapons are very class-restricted

Positives:
-Character specialization within your class at level 31 (like a permanent secondary)
-Diverse class choices
-Neat skill animations
-Group oriented at higher-end play (there's even a healer class)
-Crafting, but I haven't really gotten around to it so I don't know if its a good system

^Heroes of Newerth is better imo because you dont have to buy the characters.
